Rape in the Military

Currently, I have no comprehensive words for this story about the woman pictured above -- LaVena Johnson, a young woman killed and allegedly raped while serving in Iraq. I'm going to do some digging on this and see what I can find. Please read Love's article at:

  1. Heteropatriarchal violence is a central part of empire forging, whether they are Iraqi or American women who get abused, raped, and murdered. Military wives, never mind women whose communities are targeted by US military violence or women in the military, are twice as likely to be physically and sexually abused at home compared with non-military American women (who already face the highest rates of such violence in the Western world.)The levels of women who necessarily turn to sex work, with all of its inherent abuses is numbingly high around US military bases around the world. In sum, empire building is acutely detrimental to the lives and limbs of women, especially women of color.
